Welcome, welcome, one and all...To the fabulous Precious Things Photography blog! Consider this a virtual handshake - I'm Gen, the owner and principal photographer over here at Precious Things Photography. It is very nice to meet you. That yellow bird up there? That's Pierre - he's our mascot...

Precious Things Photography is an award winning, eco-friendly, urban boutique photography studio based out of Chicago. We're not your run-of-the-mill children's photographers. We're funky and we know it. We love color, exploring new places and making your children laugh. Our work is cherished by parents and families across the Chicagoland area. We specialize in maternity, newborn, baby, kids, teen and family photography. We don't do weddings. We don't do pets. We stay with what we know, we love what we do and we're lucky.

Bookmark this blog to check in on what we've been doing. Super large sneak peeks from sessions, studio news and more! Oh...And don't be afraid to leave some comments. We love 'em!

I loved, loved, loved this soon-to-be Mommy and Daddy…They were so much fun to work with and the excitement about their upcoming little man was almost tangible! Big props go out to the both of them for trekking all over Lincoln Park, up and down hills and through the mud to get some great shots! Now let’s see if we’re in the hospital delivering at the same time…Hmmm!!!

anna - You look amazing! GREAT pictures!!!!!

Pardon our dust!

If you’ve been checking our blog, you may have noticed that little things seem to be shifting around and changing…That’s because we’re working on it! Please pardon our dust…

Oh, and one more thing! For those of you who have checked in to see how our little bun in the oven is doing, we’ll post an update here: Although we were hospitalized this past weekend for a nasty case of food poisoning, we’re much better…and the little man inside of my tummy seems to be doing quite well, preparing for his grand entrance into this world. I know that I’m crazy for still working this close to our due date but you know what? I just can’t help it. Working like this is natural when you absolutely love what you do and love who you do it for!

Baby L is coming for ya, Tyra Banks!

If we were filming America’s Next Top Baby Model, this baby would’ve worked the camera. Between those gigantic blue eyes, that perfect pout and the fact that she loved to smile, I’m pretty sure that Tyra Banks would’ve crowned her the winner. We loved photographing Baby L and adored her parents who couldn’t have been more wonderful. Thank you, Baby L, for not getting fussy when we had you on the hardwood floors…I’m pretty sure that your knees ended up a little bit sore! And thank you to Mommy and Daddy for being so darn accommodating and allowing me to put you to work. Until next time…

Where’ve you been, Gen?

If you’ve been checking our blog frequently, you haven’t seen many updates…And there are many, many reasons for that! We wanted to take the time to let everyone know what has been going on with us!

As many of you know, we’re not too far away from meeting our little guy who may (or may not) be coming a few weeks early. Unfortunately I’ve been dealing with some pretty yucky pregnancy complications, specifically orthopedic issues, that have been preventing me from moving around as much as I’d like to be…And have also required many, many visits to the doctor and a rehabilitation clinic for physical therapy! Because of these issues, there is a possibility that we will be welcoming the little man into the world earlier than expected, which officially means that we have been rescheduling sessions booked for mid to end of March and are now nearly filled up through the end of May. At this time we are completely, 100% booked up through our estimated delivery time and are putting names on the wait list. Yes, I’m still shooting…and yes, almost everyone is telling me that I’m crazy!

We will be announcing our mini-session dates and locations very shortly, so keep your eyes peeled for that information. Until then…Happy February!

Saving the children one at a time…

Did you know that approximately 4,100 children die every single day in undeveloped countries from not having clean water? That translates to roughly 1.8 billion children per year who are losing their lives to water-related illnesses…And over 90% of these children are under the age of 5 years old. This is just unacceptable.

In 2010, Precious Things Photography has officially decided to work with Unicef’s Tap Project to provide safe, clean drinking water to children around the globe. For every session that is booked and/or order that is placed, one child will be provided clean drinking water for an entire year. Our goal is to save 100 children by the end of 2010. Just think what could happen if everyone decided to join in! That 1.8 billion children sentence above could be a statistic that doesn’t even exist…Because not a single one of them would have lost their lives.

Book your session for 2010 today and know that those photos of your child saved the life of another somewhere in this world…
